Days of 1908 to days of 2008 - 100 Years of Cavafy Date: Friday, August 29, 2008 Time: 7:00pm - 8:30pm Location: Poetry Cafe Street: 22 Betterton St., Covent Garden, WC2H An evening of Cavafy's poetry. The heat, the sensuality, the playful carelessness of summer in Alexandria at the turn of the 20th century were seductively conjured up by C. P. Cavafy in his evocative poem "Days of 1908". One century later, the work of this ground-breaking Greek poet is still alive, relevant and influential. ‘Days of 1908 to days of 2008 - 100 Years of Cavafy’ is a multilingual celebration of the poetry of this timeless writer, including readings of his poems, in the Greek original and in translations to other languages, as well as music, video art and performance poetry by contemporary artists whose work is influenced by Cavafy. Contributions from: - Nihat Tsolak - Ernesto Sarezale - more tbc At this event, members of the audience will be given the chance to read aloud their favourite Cavafy poems (or their own poems, inspired by the author).
