Equality and Diversity: Responsibilities and Challenges

The purpose of this guide is to:

1.	highlight some of the key challenges presented by equality and
diversity in the higher education sector
2.	provide members of governing bodies of higher education
institutions (HEIs) with a short overview of the legislative framework
covering discrimination issues and inform them of their responsibilities

3.	outline a set of key questions for members of governing bodies
to be used as an aid in fulfilling their legal responsibilities, and
4.	provide examples of action that can be taken to support equality
processes.

Subject: equality and diversity leadership and management development

Dear all

I am currently working with the University of Brighton to research
options for equality and diversity support and development
activities/tools for the Board of Governors, senior staff and managers.

Does anyone have experiences or information that you could share on how
you have approached this in your institutions? Ie what have you done
and how has this been received? Can you recommend good speakers or
facilitators for this level of engagement? Is there anything that you
would not recommend!? Have you come across practice or initiatives from
other sectors that might be helpful?

Thanks in advance

Ann Allcock
