The Science Museum Library & Archives opened its new search facility near Swindon earlier this year. The facility now holds all of the Museum’s archive collections of scientists, engineers and companies; all of the Library’s rare books collections; its entire patents and trade literature collections and most of its nineteenth and twentieth century book and journal collections. 

The Library is offering a coach service from outside the Science Museum London to SM Library Swindon, enabling you to carry out research on this significant resource for the history of science and technology. 

 
The forthcoming dates are Tuesday, July 22 and Friday, September 26, leaving the Museum at approximately 0930 and leaving SM Swindon at 1530.  Journey times are approximately 1.75 hours (depending on traffic).  There are 16 places available.
 
There will be a charge for this service of £25. Comparison with travel by rail is £37 for a cheap day saver from London plus more than £10 each way for a taxi from Swindon station to SML Swindon.
 
If you are interested, then please contact SML Swindon by email ([log in to unmask]), at least five days before the above dates to book a place.  The library accepts payment by cheque or by credit card. Please also advise us of the material you wish to consult as this may need to be brought over from the main library store, which is in a separate building.
 
If there is not sufficient take-up of places, then we may have to cancel the trip.  You will be advised if this happens.

If this service becomes popular we hope to increase its frequency to two visits per month.
