I Know this is more about representation than physical accessibility, but RCMG's work on Rethinking Disability Representation may be worth a look.

"Rethinking Disability Representation was initiated and is managed by the Research Centre for Museums and Galleries (RCMG) and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA), with contributions from the University and the nine partner museums involved.

Available to download is the first of a series of project updates designed to share the outcomes and learning experiences of the project."

Dear All,

Following on from Katie's enquiry, we were recently asked by the British Standards Institute to put together a list of 'grassroots and other professional organisations lobbying for accessibility in museums, archives and libraries'. It was interesting that after several days of searching we had to call off the hunt, having failed to find anyone (apart from Kids in Museums, which doesn't focus on disability per se).

We did try approaching the Equality and Human Rights Commission in their role as successor to the Disability Rights Commission, but without success. Can there really be *no-one* focussing on this area?

dear all,

networks is currently a great weakness. The only disability specific e-discsussion list in the UK is the MLA Disability Mailtalk.

It's free, go on www.mlalondondon<http://www.mlalondondon.org.uk>.org.uk, click 'priorities' and 'inclusion and diversity'.

If you know of any similar lists here or overseas, I'd be happy to know.

best wishes,

Marcus

Subject: Disability and Museums networks/ Responses to queries on a Blind Association visit

Dear all

Two things really:

Does anyone know of any museum networks focusing on meeting the needs of visitors with disabilities? Based on my internet research, MAGDA seems to have disappeared , so I was wondering if anything had replaced it, either regionally or nationally.

Secondly, a few months ago I posted a query about tours for partially-sighted visitors. Apologies for such a long delay, but many thanks to all those who responded to my enquiry - I got lots of really useful, imaginative feedback. In fact, there was so much of it (including seperate documents) that I have chosen not to clog up everyone's inboxes with it - but if you would like a copy of this info please let me know and I will send it to you.

Best wishes
