The ‘Global Cities’ Research Institute was formed in 2006 to bring together key researchers at RMIT University, to better understand the complexities of globalising urban settings through research on contemporary issues including globalisation, urban development, human security, climate change and social education. The research is highly collaborative, linking with institutions and people around the world in long-term partnerships.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow (Tenure -Track) to join the Institute in a position that has been jointly funded by the Global Cities Research Institute together with the School of Mathematical and Geospatial Sciences. The successful candidate will have a key research role into the life of the School of Mathematical and Geospatial Sciences and the discipline areas of geospatial mapping, remote sensing, and related academic programs.

Prime responsibilities of this position will also include the following:

·                       Contributing to research, writing and analysis with the Human Security program of the Global Cities Institute

·                       The creation of a remote-sensing toolbox for multi-scale mapping of urban environment

·                       Ensuring that a steady outcome of publications in journals and books is achieved

·                       Providing key research skills and leadership in the Human Security research area, and identifying further opportunities for collaboration via presentations and competitive grant proposals

·                       Organising, attenting and supporting meetings, forums and seminars

·                       Delivering occasional lectures in line with your research interests

As the successful candidate you will have a significant national and international track record of research and publication in either an area of geospatial mapping or remote sensing, and proven experience in working with innovating teams. Your interpersonal skills, including your verbal and written communication will be of the highest order, as you will be regularly required to consult, interact and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.

Essential to your application will be a PhD qualification in a relevant field, together with significant post-degree work experience in an area related to geospatial mapping and remote sensing. Furthermore, Evidence of successful ability to achieve grants, and carry out complex collaborative projects will be essential to your success.

The ‘Global Cities’ Research Institute was formed in 2006 to bring together key researchers at RMIT University, to better understand the complexities of globalising urban settings through research on contemporary issues including globalisation, urban development, human security, climate change and social education. The research is highly collaborative, linking with institutions and people around the world in long-term partnerships.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join the Institute where the successful candidate will be responsible for providing research support for the work of the Director of the Global Cities Research Institute.

Additional duties will also include:

·                       Providing general research assistance

·                       Developing the database capabilities of the Institute

·                       Supporting the process of identifying, coordinating and developing research grants

·                       Supporting the planning for research trips, and working with the Director in the filed, both nationally and internationally in the Asia-Pacific region.

·                       Attending meetings, forums, and seminars

As the successful candidate you will have previous experience in providing research support in an area of relevance to the Institute such as globalisation, international development and/or environmental or social sustainability. Furthermore, your interpersonal skills, including your verbal and written communication will be of the highest order, as you will be regularly required to consult, interact and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.

Essential to your application will be either an Honours or Masters degree in a relevant field, together with post-degree work experience in a relevant area. Although not essential, fluency in a language other than English and applicable in the Asia-Pacific region is highly desirable.
