Hi David and all,

Lao Tzu once said “Truthful words are not beautiful; beautiful words are not truthful. Good words are not persuasive; persuasive words are not good”. David, when you do write on this list, I often find it very interesting and I learn lots from it. So if you do want to leave the list, why punish all of us for what you perceive to be an attack by one person. Personally, I see the recent ‘debate’ much like the captain and his first mate arguing about whose fault it was as the Titanic is sinking, while the band plays its last piece. I normally just ‘tune-off’ on this type of debates (that is not to say it is not important, I just find it pointless, no?).

Peace

yunus

Did anyone else see an attack?

Mark and David - this is getting too much for me. Please remove me from the list.

David Ballard - as with Monbiot/Tickell in the Guardian, if you attack me in public, what can I do but respond in public . . .

Looking back, what I am wondering is what news, information, argument - as distinct from the obviously welcome chit-chat - you have actually contributed to the 'crisis-list'. It is possible that what you call 'band-width' is actually more a case of 'wave-length' and you're just not on it.

Perhaps you just don't see what's happening as a crisis. Wouldn't that be nice. Perhaps this list isn't a crisis list.

This matter was discussed off-list and the off-list result was . . . "The debate  with Tickell, Monbiot  et al. on the Crisis Forum list has run its course and should now be rested at least for the time being. No need to stop relevant info from GCI.....this is not intended as censorship. I understand your frustrations."

I frankly don't understand yours. In case you didn't notice it - hugely assisted by the 'green movement' - the actual final result from the G-8 was the same idiotic stand-off for the same idiotic reasons, for what is now the twentieth darkening year in a row.

Where Tickell and Monbiot and many other are right is in recognising that we are running out of time. Where the green movement is wrong is in believing that continuing to offer developing countries a blank cheque on emissions whilst continuing to try and isolate America/IC's in the 'guilty' corner amounts to constructive engagement. Unless that conflict is resolved there is a war increasingly implied by all of this.

Whether we recognize and/or like that or not, that is a crisis that envelopes us all in Walthamstow, Croydon, Southampton, New Orleans, Timbuktu . . . and this time round Toyako . . . and the crisis is not 'environmental' it is 'psychic'; globally neither side yields and any of our best local efforts are not just hostage to, but actually increasingly crushed by, that global stalemate and its dreadful implied denoument.

Aubrey

I count 28 messages from you to Crisis Forum since 1st July. 6 of them yesterday - ie the rate has gone up not down since Mark's intervention. Way too much bandwidth for me I fear.

Give it (perhaps yourself) a rest for a while, please! Or at least be a bit more choiceful about what you choose to post, exercising some discernment as to whether what you post is likely to add to the process of what is, after all, meant to be a forum.
