The icrcl document I sent round sites a value in soil of
0.001% (10mg/kg) as higher concentrations in soil have been found to give air
concentration above acceptable levels
So justifying none
Does anyone have a copy of the second paper
Thanks

Subject: RE: Asbestos Human Health Risk Assessment
Gareth
For future
ref try this….(already sent to Liz)
The Dutch Draft Assessment protocol ‘Assessing risks
of soil contamination with asbestos’, (RIVM, 2003 (Abstract only in
English) derives criteria for soil. It was recognised in the report that
that the behaviour of asbestos was different from other contaminants in soil
and so an alternative to the CSOIL model was used. Instead, use was made
of measuring results i.e the concentrations of asbestos in soil and air for
deriving an intervention value of 100mg/kg (dry weight).
A further paper was published in 2004 by the RIVM entitled
‘Relevancy of human exposure via household dust to the contaminants lead
and asbestos’. The report uses calculations based on a number of
assumptions, to predict the concentration of asbestos in household dust.
The calculation is undertaken from the surface loading, the contribution of
soil to house dust and the concentration of asbestos in soil. It is
concluded that a significant contribution of asbestos in outside soils can only
be expected for asbestos levels in exterior soils exceeding 100mg/kg (0.01%)
and notes that this is in line with the intervention values already
published.
Obviously
you need to look at the assumptions for CSM etc before applying any such
criteria..etc etc..
Regards
Alison

Hello All,
Can anyone point me in the direction of any guidance/research for asbestos
human health generic/detailed risk assessment?
What guidance do people generally use?
Thanks in advance of any help.
