This is an opportunity to gain experience in a top performing county record office and local studies service, with a reputation for excellence and innovation. Committed to offering a wide range of services designed to preserve Hampshire's archival heritage and to foster and develop interest in archives, we offer excellent opportunities for learning and career development.
You'll accession and catalogue new collections of archives, appraise and list local authority and other records, and also, with other members of the team, work with the Community Archives Officer to develop knowledge and care of archives in the community. You'll also help supervise the public searchroom, providing advice and guidance to visitors on the use and interpretation of records.
For the Archivist role you'll possess a postgraduate archival qualification, good organisational ability and broad palaeographical skills and an understanding of the principles of cataloguing. You'll have some practical experience, and good communication and interpersonal skills, and ideally you'll also be familiar with the use of CALM 2000.
The Archives Officer role would be ideal for someone looking for experience prior to undertaking a postgraduate qualification in archives. You would preferably be educated to degree level and be able to demonstrate a commitment to archives as a future career.
Ideally, we are hoping to appoint an Archivist but if you would like to apply for the Archives Officer vacancy to gain experience prior to undertaking a qualification in this field, your application will be considered at the appropriate salary for that role.
