The meeting will take place on a hired canal barge which will ply the Grand Union Canal from the museum at Stoke Bruerne. The museum is located on the canal towpath in Stoke Bruerne village, near Towcester in Northamptonshire.

By car: south of Northampton, Stoke Bruerne is 10 minutes from both the M1 (J15) and the A5, just off the A508

By rail and bus: the nearest railway stations are at Northampton and Milton Keynes. If you arrive by rail it will be necessary to catch a bus or taxi for the remainder of the journey to Stoke Bruerne.

Car parking: pay and display car parking is available outside the Museum. Parking for blue badge holders is provided outside the museum.

Interactive map can be accessed from http://nwm.org.uk/stoke/Visiting.html.

Meeting point: meet at the Boat Inn at 12.45 p.m.

You may also like to include a visit to the museum as part of the day.  The museum is housed in an 1840s corn mill and features examples of canal painted-ware, clothing worn by boat men and women and a rare Weighing Machine used to calculate how much cargo each boat could carry.  From 1 June a collection of photographs from the Stoke Bruerne archive will also be on display.  Details on visiting the museum, including admission prices, can be found online at http://nwm.org.uk/stoke/StokeBruerneHome.html .

Lunch Arrangements
Lunch is available on the barge for a cost of £10.00. This will be a 'working lunch'. Alternatively you are welcome to make your own arrangements prior to the meeting.

Would like to attend?
There are forty places available. Please confirm attendance to me by Tuesday 8 July. Please also confirm:

Whilst East Midlands members have priority, non-members are also welcome to join us for the boat ride. This will also be a great opportunity for any new members or individuals who are interested in joining to come along to a meeting, and find out a little bit more about the region.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions at all.

Regards,

Peter Lester
Secretary, East Midlands Region
