Another Academic Study of Magic post - you MAY want to follow the link to
look at the OTO trademark case stuff.

Is there a link to the actual decision anywhere?

Thanks,

Subject: [ACADEMIC-STUDY-MAGIC] OTO legal case

given the toruble we had the other week with moving towards a flame war
on
other topics, thanks everyone for NOT going nuts regarding the recent
announcement of the OTO trademark legal case, for example as is reported

here: http://abrahadabra.net/2008/06/19/oto-wins-trademark-case/

for those who have not heard, in brief it is not about who has
legitimate
succession or anything of that nature, but it decided the Caliphate OTO
are
the only ones who can use those contentious initials as a trademark now,
in
the UK

but the judgment is more complex than that....

and the resulting fallout has all but killed a non-academic but usually
very
intelligent e-list that i visit regularly, with several folk whom i had
great respect for behaving in bizarre and upsetting ways, up to and
including threatening eachother with violence

so, thanks for not tearing eachother to pieces about it here as well!

If anyone does want to make a thread about it can we *please* keep it
stringently academic (perhaps we have some lawyers on the list who can
give
useful commnet on that angle of the case, for example?) and not take it
down
to a 'my OTO is better than your OTO' bun-fight
