Bob
I think it comes down to risk assessments: For example if the glass phial of insulin is kept in the plastic pen, inside a case, inside the locker then I think the risk is minimal, but having a glass bottle on the person in the factory (which is a glass free site – apart from glasses) is probably quite a high risk and maybe they should be moved to a lower risk area where the product is covered.
I would be interested in anybody who has a policy though……………

Forgot abput the GTN spray. perhaps if there is a need could they
be held in a carry case under the outer clothing. Specs are allowed!! What do
you think?
If it is such a critical area should the person then be barred from
working there or should an individual risk assessment be done to seek approval?

Hi Bob
I was thinking about things like inhaler and GTN spray, where the advice is to rest and use the medication, I think there would be an argument against somebody having angina pain and then having to walk to their locker (ours can be quite far away). This then brought up the issue of glass bottles …….another can of worms I think! ;-)

Clare

Clare,
I would be interested in this please. We have a strict nothing in the
fproduction areas but employees can leave their area for comfort breaks
and or to take their medicines.
I cannot think of any medicines that are that actually need to be on their
person rather than in an easily accessible locker or control point (?? epipen
or inhaler).
