There was certainly a very small area of underground work for
'Stonesfield Slate' , a fissile limestone used for roofing, at Stonesfield
about 1 mile from Fawler. I believe 1 small working, in a farmyard is
still accessible.
The Grantham / Kettering ironstone orefield may have it's southern limit
not far away, but I can't remember where.
    Hope this helps.
Yours in a Hole,
Mole.

Can anyone help me with sources for ironstone (or other) mining in the area
around Fawler, near Charlbury, about 17.5 kms NW of Oxford?

Thanks in advance.
