Space Academy - Education Outreach Officer

A new post of Education Outreach Officer is available immediately in the 
Institute of Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy (IESSG) at the 
University of Nottingham.  Applications are invited for the above post to 
support the expanding activities of the IESSG, an international centre of 
excellence based at one of the UK’s strongest research–led universities.  
The Institute is housed in excellent purpose-built accommodation in the 
centre of Nottingham’s renowned campus.

This new post will be focussed on a number of outreach activities in 
support of the newly awarded Space Academy programme, led by the National 
Space Centre in Leicester, with a focus on the technology and applications 
of satellite navigation systems (such as GPS and Galileo).  It will also 
offer the opportunity to engage with relevant industrial companies within 
the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) sector.  Candidates should 
ideally have a good track record in studies of GNSS technology and 
applications, and have an interest in science education and/or outreach.

The successful candidate will provide support for the development of a 
satellite navigation based education project working with educators from 
the National Space Centre and specialist consultants/teachers.  They will 
engage with industrial companies and the research world by developing 
activities which link these two sources of expertise in GNSS technology 
and applications (GTA) with STEM subject needs at Key Stage 4/5.  They 
will also have the opportunity to undertake limited research activities 
within the IESSG to ensure science specialist skills are maintained at the 
forefront of research.
 
Salary will be within the range £25,888 - £33,780 per annum, depending on 
qualifications and experience (salary can progress to £33,780 per annum, 
subject to performance).  This post will be offered on a fixed-term 
contract for a period of three years.
