Subject: Life in the UK
Dear All
I have just been informed that the new UK Border Agency is
responding to some of the comments and suggestions about the Citizenship test
requirements. People who have been in the UK for some time and have acquired
good oral fluency in English, ie E3 or above, with or without the benefit of
ESOL classes but are not literate in English have been at a particular
disadvantage as they do not qualify for the ESOL route and would struggle with
the handbook. With this group in mind, but also for those who prefer
listening to reading, the TSO has published an Audio CD version of
the handbook - you can order it from - http://www.tsoshop.co.uk/bookstore.asp?trackid=002017&FO=1240167&DI=591067.
As you can also hear the test questions demands on reading
ability are pretty minimal. There is also a large-print version
available for individuals with visual impairment.
I have been
told that the TSO is developing supplementary support materials which may
include an online tutorial, practice guide questions and flash-cards but don't
know when these will available.
All the
best
Celine
