Dear colleagues,

I am writing to let you know that the University of Aberdeen is now advertising three posts, including two permanent positions for archaeologists specialising in northern Europe (including northern Britain), northern North America, or northern Eurasia. Ideally, the candidates will also have a methodological specialism, such as archaeobotany, zooarchaeology, bioarchaeology, materials science, or geophysics. If you know of anyone who might be interested in one of these positions, could you please forward this information to them, along with the link to the University of Aberdeen Human Resources website?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best wishes,

Karen Milek

Jobs at the Department of Archaeology, School of Geosciences, University of Aberdeen

10-month fixed-term Lectureship:

We are inviting applications for a 10-month fixed-term Lectureship in Archaeology for the 2008-9 academic year, replacing Dr Peter Jordan who will be on research leave. Candidates with teaching experience in the fields of world archaeology, British prehistory and material culture studies are particularly encouraged to apply, and we would welcome candidates from both the humanities- and science-based branches of the discipline. The successful candidate will also complement and extend existing research strengths in Archaeology such as northern and circumpolar societies, hunter-gatherer studies, ancient mentalities, religions and world-views and landscape analysis. Application deadline: July 4.

Permanent Lectureship and Permanent Senior Lectureship/Readership:

We are inviting applications for two permanent posts at the respective scales of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer/Reader to work with colleagues both within the Archaeology discipline and more widely in the College. The candidates should have a proven track record of research and publication in the archaeology of the northern world, and we particularly seek applicants working with prehistoric or historic periods in North America and/or northern Eurasia (including Scandinavia). Other areas of specific interest include zooarchaeology, archaeobotany, bioarchaeology, archaeological materials science and archaeological geophysics. Candidates who can combine any of these skills with the stated regional specialisms are especially encouraged to apply. We also particularly welcome archaeologists who specialise in northern indigenous communities, or who conduct archaeological work in those areas. Application deadline: July 5
