Dear All

Here’s another mystery item which we have recently acquired as part of a large collection of Bedford related material.

Made of metal, it unscrews into two halves to reveal two leather discs/washers inside.

On the base it reads “Jenny Sell” and “High St Bedford”. She was possibly a butcher/fishmonger according to local directories. The metal shows signs of wear on the base, the ring and also the knob by which the ring is attached.

We thought that it is a plug of some sort but it seems a bit too decorative for that.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Many thanks
