Dear Colleagues, I would be grateful if you could circulate this to any students who you feel would be interested Call for Abstracts 88th Annual Transportation Research Board (TRB) Meeting Washington, DC, January 11-15, 2009 The TRB Committees on: Geometric Design (AFB10) and Operational Effects of Geometrics (AHB65) are co-sponsoring a 2-part session including: Graduate Student Research Summaries in Geometric Design and Hot Topics in Geometric Design The TRB Committees[1] on Geometric Design (AFB10) and Operational effects of Geometrics (AHB65) welcome submission of abstracts by graduate student authors for consideration of presentation at the 88th Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board. The abstracts should reflect ongoing research being conducted by graduate students (both Master and Doctorate) in Geometric Design (and its safety and operational effects) - this would be research that is not quite complete or yet in a format ready for a traditional TRB paper peer review. The intent of this workshop is to get exposure for ongoing geometric design research and to provide students the experience of presenting at TRB. Papers will not be required for submission; therefore, papers will not be peer-reviewed according to TRB procedures, nor would they appear on the TRB Annual Meeting CD. Abstracts will be reviewed by members of the committees and those selected will be asked to present a Powerpoint presentation of the research at the workshop. Abstracts should be submitted directly to AFB10 member, David McDonald via email ([log in to unmask]). "TRB, Geometric Design Workshop" should appear in the email subject line. Abstracts should follow the requirements found on TRB's website: http://www.trb.org/Guidelines/Authors.pdf. The author's name, affiliation, and contact information (including mailing address and email address) must appear in the same document as the abstract. In addition to the abstract, the student should submit a letter of nomination from a professor or faculty supervisor that clearly states their anticipated graduation date. The abstract and nomination letter must be in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat format. Abstracts to be considered for the 2009 Annual Meeting must be submitted electronically no later than October 3, 2008. Abstracts cannot be accepted after October 3, 2008 due to the time required to facilitate the selection process. Authors of the selected abstracts will be contacted in November 2008. A unique aspect of this session is that in addition to the graduate student geometric design research presentations, there will be an additional piece to the workshop where hot topics in Geometric Design will be presented by the AFB10 committee. TRB Annual meeting information is posted on the TRB website http://www.trb.org/meeting. We look forward to receiving abstracts and to your participation in the AFB10 and AHB65 sessions.
