2 ASSISTANT PROFESSORS or ASSOCIATE PROFESSORS


Two positions as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor are vacant at
the Centre for Design Research from September the 1st 2008 or as soon as
possible after that.

Place of employment: Denmark's Design School.

The purpose of the Centre for Design Research is to enhance the research
within design in Denmark, and is organised as cooperation between Aarhus
School of Architecture, Denmark's Design School, Designskolen Kolding, and
the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. The head of the
centre is located at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of
Architecture.

A.Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in the field of Visual
Communication and Visual Culture

The position implies teaching at Denmark's Design School and research in
accordance with the common initiatives within Centre for Design Research
and Denmark's Design School’s plan for research.

The post will be filled by a candidate with academic qualifications and
teaching skills on a high level in the field of visual communication, with
a specific focus on one or more of the subjects: Visual culture, graphic
design, photography, and web design.

Besides the necessary academic qualifications it is an advantage if the
applicant has experience from the practical arena and from collaboration
with the business and industry.

B.Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in the field of Experimental
design research

The position requires teaching at Denmark's Design school and research in
accordance with the common initiatives within Centre for Design Research
and, Denmark's Design School’s plan for research.

The post will be filled by a candidate with academic qualifications and
teaching skills on a high level in the field of experimental design
research with a specific focus on one or more of the subjects: “practice
based research”, “open design processes, co-design and user-dialog”,
“design as learning-process, knowledge – field, and knowledge production”,
and design anthropology.

Besides the necessary academic qualifications it is an advantage if the
candidate has experience from the practical arena and from collaboration
with the industry.

Common for the two positions:

Employment as Assistant Professor regards academic qualifications on Ph.D.
level. Employment as Associate Professor regards academic  qualifications
on Ph.D. level, documentation of research production on an international
level, other developing of the research field, or production of original
artistic developing on an international level. The applicants will be hired
either as assistant or associate professor after an assessment.

Please note that Denmark's Design School will decide whether to fill the
positions with an assistant or associate professor. Assistant professor is
a full-time three-year position. Associate professor is a permanent
full-time position.

The positions require teaching at Denmark's Design School and research in
accordance with the common initiatives within Centre for Design Research
and Denmark's Design School’s plan for research.

Applicants with academic qualifications and teaching skills on a high level
will fill the posts. It is appreciated if the applicants have a
crossdisciplinary focus that facilitate research and teaching
collaborations internally at Denmark's Design School, and externally with
the industry, the public sector and other higher education and research
institutions.

It is expected that the applicant have experience with International, and
national publishing. Except from that it is an advantage if the applicants
have experience from participation in extensive research projects and/or
from
projects with the industry.

It is also necessary that the applicants can document experience with
teaching and in developing teaching activities. As well as having ideas
about and an
interest in elaboration of the research based education together with the
teachers at Denmark's Design School.

Another obligation in connection with the position is to contribute to the
further development of subjects and research fields both at Denmark's
Design School and at the Centre for Design Research, a developing process,
which, amongst many things, hopefully will lead to University level.
According to this, the applicants’ ability to work for elaboration for the
research-based teaching has a high priority. The structuring of an academic
environment is a central priority for Denmark's Design School, and
therefore daily presence is a pre-requisite.

The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current collective
agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Danish University Faculty
Members. Appointment will take place according to executive order no: 1507
dated December the 14th, 2006 on appointment of artistic research staff at
educational institutions related to the Ministry of Culture.

Applications

Application deadline is the 30 of June 2008, 12.00.

Application submitted by e-mail or fax will not be accepted.

The application must clearly state which of the positions the application
regards, A or B.

Applications should be submitted in four copies and should include personal
data, curriculum vitae, a complete list of published work, and three copies
of reference works (however, not more than seven different works).

The applications may include visions and ideas for how the applicants can
contribute to the developing of research in the field, and to elaborate the
research-based teaching.

At last the application ought to include material that can document the
applicants experience with teaching, in three copies.

All supplementary documents that the applicant considers relevant should be
sent together with the application. Copies and other documents will not be
accepted after the application deadline.
