Dear Friends and Colleagues,

You are cordially invited to attend the LWW CETL Drama and Language Learning Day on Friday 13th June 2008 from 10.00- 16.00. We are delighted to have three keynote speakers; Professor Vivian Gardner from the University of Manchester who will speak about discuss the ways in which her temporary and temporal experience of 'displacement' was used as a tool to develop workshops with experts in 'non-formal education' - how disadvantage was turned to advantage; Dr Mike Fleming from the School of Education, Durham University, will examine some of the theoretical issues, advantages and practical challenges involved in using drama to support language learning; and Ken Wilson, ELT author and former director of the English Teaching Theatre will give a workshop demonstration which will show how drama activities really can help your students with confidence and fluency and can make the class atmosphere nicer and the teacher's work easier.

In the afternoon will be workshops where there will be an opportunity to explore some of these theories in practice. Workshop themes will explore; using students' own experience of life and culture, to explore the language learning experience through memories, dreams, playfulness, objects and improvisation; using conventions from Drama in Education in the teaching of a second language; use of puppets to experiment creatively in your target language.
