On 28 May 1968, triggered by a dispute about student union funds, many
students and staff occupied the main College building in Crouch End,
initially for a period of twenty-four hours. The protest expanded and
led to six weeks of activity, creativity and debate. The occupation was
perhaps, the most significant student protest in Britain during that
year of international unrest, and its focus was primarily on the future
of art education and the role of the artist and designer in society.

Our anniversary event will include a talk by Professor Lisa Tickner
(author of Hornsey 1968: The Art School Revolution), reflections on the
'68 Sit-in by participants David Page and Prue Bramwell-Davis, a panel
discussion and a showing of The Hornsey Film made by Patricia Holland in
1969.

There will also be a presentation of work by current BA Design students
inspired by the Sit-in.

RSVP by 16 May to Judy Vaknin

There is a small exhibition comprising material from the Hornsey College
of Art Archive about the Sit-in currently running in the foyer of the
Art & Design Learning Resources Centre at Cat Hill campus. The
