Dear All

It is good to see  MLA London going out and actively seeking historical moments and getting timely random comments.

I am wondering when they will be posting comments on the excitement [or otherwise] of Assembly members, London quangoes, their respective staff and London residents on the "retirement of Ken and the onset of Boris" which I am sure that many people would find as historically interesting [in my own case more so] than Peoples "excitement" at the Olympics and cheaper too!

Or am I also unduly cynical?

Regards
David

Dear All,

Perhaps I'm just feeling unduly cynical today but this reminded me of the group of people in the Hitch-hikers' Guide to the Galaxy  who land on planet Earth and immediately start making documentaries about themselves.

People's Record grant scheme

MLA London and MLA Council -
People's Record Phase 1 - "vox pop" Capturing the nation's memories and aspirations
This year, for Phase 1 of People’s Record, we want to work with museums, libraries and archives to undertake a mass “vox pop” to record the nation’s memories, thoughts and aspirations during the celebrations that will mark the Handover of the Games from Beijing and the Launch of the Cultural Olympiad. We are working with the Mass Observation Archive to shape the questions we will ask communities and BBC Memoryshare to collect, share and store the memories and responses.

Funding of up to £1,000 per applicant is available for museums, libraries and archives that want to gather public responses at both the sites of celebration,  and in their own premises. We hope to gather a range of responses, from people enthused by the vision of 2012 and those not yet engaged. We intend to work with museums, libraries and archives across London.

This is a great opportunity for museums, libraries and archives who want to get involved and raise the profile of their organisation during the celebrations. The closing date is noon on 20 May 2008.
