I would like to draw your attention to a PhD studentship, 'Type 1 diabetes
in Northern Ireland children – epidemiology, risk factors and
complications', being offerred by Queen's University Belfast under the
Programme for Government scheme. The studentship begins in September 2008
and includes fees and a maintenance grant. The successful candidate will
need to have (or expect to obtain) a first or upper second class honours
degree and there is also a UK residency qualification. For further
details of the scheme please click on the link:
http://www.qub.ac.uk/schools/SchoolofMedicineandDentistry/ProspectiveStuden
ts/PostgraduateResearch/PhDStudentships/

The project would suit a student with an interest in applying statistical
methods in epidemiology. The student should have a primary degree
including a considerable statistics component and strong IT skills. On
successful completion the student could expect to get a job as an applied
statistician in the pharmaceutical industry, a university medical faculty
or the health service. Further information about the project may be
obtained using the link:
http://www.qub.ac.uk/cm/postgrad/details.htm
or by contacting Dr Chris Patterson ([log in to unmask]).

Students should apply on-line at http://pg.apply.qub.ac.uk/home/. The
final deadline for applications is Thursday 22nd May, but earlier
application is strongly advised as places under the scheme are limited.
