Research Associate Statistician Project title: Improving diagnostic accuracy in physical child abuse Departments of Child Health and Primary care & Public health, School of Medicine, Cardiff University The post of research statistician to the PROTECT project is a joint post between the Departments of Child Health and Primary Care & Public Health at Cardiff University. This four year research project is funded by MRC and is the first of its kind designed to improve diagnostic accuracy in physical child abuse. It is a collaborative project with the department of Forensic Pathology in Leicester University and other units across the UK. The main duty of the post is to provide expert statistical analysis and a large amount of statistical work is required for this project. An enthusiastic statistician, preferably with research experience, is required to carry out this work. It will give experience in a range of statistical methods, including Bayesian modelling and image analysis. You will be expected to be an integral member of the research team which includes paediatricians, a research nurse, Accident and Emergency Staff, as well as statisticians. The post will be ideal for someone wanting to make a career in Medical Statistics. You must be able to work as part of an integrated team, have knowledge of advanced statistical methods, an ability to use a statistical package such as Stata, R or SPSS, experience of statistical modelling and good IT skills. Essential qualifications include a first degree in a subject with a substantial component of statistics. Experience of Bayesian analysis would be valuable, although not essential. This post is fixed-term until 30 September 2011.
