One to ponder for a Friday afternoon. We received a specimen on a 33yr old woman with 'subfertility' for LH/FSH. This showed a suppressed LH of <0.1 U/L with a normal FSH of 14.6 U/L. The LH was the same on repeat analysis and I added on a number of other tests - see below.

L.H <0.1 U/L
F.S.H 14.6 U/L
17 B Oestradiol 83 pmol/L
Prolactin 182 mU/L Up to 350
Serum H.C.G <1.0 IU/L Up to 4
Testosterone 0.8 nmol/L 0.5 - 3.0

I must admit that I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to explain the low LH in this context and I wondered if anyone else had come across a similar situation. Answers on a postcard please....?

Kind regards
Louise Tilbrook
