Apparently this reply sent some time ago was rejected by the mail list
for some reason, so just sending it again! ( I got3 reject messages and
feel really unwanted!!)

Mark - you win the gold star! - it isn't the normal design, but was used
for cubing the pieces you would have after dividing the sugar loaf with
a sugar-loaf axe, apparently they were easier on the hands and wrists
than the usual scissor type design.  I have this from the impeccable
source of Peter Brears, caught luckily en route from London to Dorset
via Leeds!.

We are looking for help identifying a mystery object - please see the
attached photo.  Sorry about the poor quality, it is a scan of a photo
brought in by a member of the public.  Seemingly this was on display in
a National Trust property somewhere in Sussex...

Any thoughts appreciated!
