I'm ashamed to have to ask; but does anyone remember to whom Elizabeth described Philip Sidney as 'the most accomplished gentleman in Europe'? I have a dim memory that she said it in French, so possibly (but not necessarily) to a Frenchman. Many thanks, Roger Kuin
