Its always tricky raising criticisms from the floor in these sorts of events
but davids question/critique was skillfully put and I thought resonated with
a large part of the audience. Richard Layard said he agreed with nearly all
that david said but seems stuck in an individualistic/therapy line of
action. I have since learnt that my area east sussex, and neighbouring
brighton are likely to be in the first wave of getting the money and will be
expanding therapy services post haste. This has helped concentrate my
thinking!

The whole programme is rolling out to cover half of england over the next
three years but the rest of england will only get the money if three years
on it is seen to be working. I am not sure whether wales in included.

I think moving on from a statement to a much more articualted account of
alternative approaches to the levels of underachievement, poor psychological
functiong and preventable illnesses in our society and communities is whats
needed. The next bps conference is in brighton and maybe this is could be
used in a small way in this regard. I am not naive about the bps but their
is a powerful story that needs to be told.

Richard
