With more than 25 years experience in the educational software industry, Widgit has pioneered the worldwide use of symbol software with titles such as Writing with Symbols and Communicate: In Print, supported by the Widgit Literacy Symbol set. Working with many organisations, both in the UK and abroad, Widgit Software advocates the use of symbols as tools for participation and communication for people with learning disabilities. We are looking for someone to create symbols and develop an understanding of their concept and language, as well as producing accessible information materials. The work will involve writing in Easy English and symbolising materials such as signage, leaflets, guidebooks and formal documents. Creating symbols includes working with teachers on the Symbol Inclusion Project, foreign partners and project clients. You will need to be familiar with design software in a Windows environment, specifically vector graphics applications such as Freehand and Illustrator. Designing symbols requires meticulous attention to detail and a keen interest in visual communication and language. You will need to be self-motivated and confident working alone or as part of a team. It is essential that you are non-discriminatory and comfortable working with all sorts of people.
