Following the success of last year's New Health Information Specialists Conference, the Health Statistics User Group (HSUG) are organising a second event this summer. This year's conference will take place over two days, enabling some new topics to be covered in the final session, and greater opportunities for networking. There will also be an evening social event on 22nd July to facilitate even more networking. Delegates will have the choice to attend either the full conference or just the final session.

This conference will be of interest to all who are new to working with health information, or health statistics, and brings together experts in health information from the Department of Health, NHS in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, Office for National Statistics, General Register Office for Scotland and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, as well as other special health agencies. Topics will include:

1. An introduction to the structure of the NHS in the UK and how it is funded
2. How Government health information strategies are decided and monitored, at national and local level, highlighting the different approaches between countries.
3. How health data are collected and held by different organisations (including health activity data, births and deaths registrations data, surveys and registers)
4. How users of health information can access the various sources of data, and what factors need to be taken into account when using the information

If you want to 'fast track' your understanding of these health organisations, how they fit together, and what information you can access, or if you want to understand more about areas of health information outside your own, then you will gain a lot from attending this conference. This is also an opportunity for you to meet others working in Health Information from across the UK, allowing you to build your own network of contacts.

Further information about the conference programme and how to make a booking will be made available on the HSUG web site ( www.hsug.org.uk ) from early May:.
If you want to register an interest at this pre-booking stage, you can e-mail HSUG at [log in to unmask] or Genevieve Groom [log in to unmask]
