MRC Capacity Building Studentship The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, one of the largest post-graduate medical schools in Europe, is pleased to invite applications for a Medical Research Council-funded PhD studentship in epidemiology/statistics. The studentship will run for three years from October 2008 and will provide fees plus a stipend, subject to eligibility requirements. Modelling the relationship between homocysteine and cardiovascular disease. Supervisors: John Whittaker and Liam Smeeth This project will examine the relationship between homocysteine and cardiovascular disease by the development of statistical models that allow the integration of multiple sources of evidence regarding this relationship. Sources of evidence include observational studies, clinical trials and genetic studies. The project will involve a mix of statistical modelling and epidemiological work, with the balance of the two determined by the student's interests and abilities. The ideal applicant will have a strong statistical background plus an interest in medical/epidemiological research, but strong candidates from other backgrounds will also be considered.
