This one-day workshop aims to improve the theory, techniques and applications of ontology-based knowledge modeling for designing, searching and managing learning resource repositories. This workshop is organized by the LORNET research network, a major Canadian project. Semantic Web methods, tools and applications have been the focus of this network for the last five years. The workshop will welcome papers from all sectors of the ITS and AI-ED community, as well as report on LORNET research results.


THEMES


The themes are not limited to but include the following:

* Ontology modeling tools and methods
* Ontology-based learner interaction design, techniques, and analysis
* Recommender and assistance systems for resource selection
* Personalization tools and applications
* Extending folksonomies beyond taxonomies
* User knowledge and competency modeling
* Ontology-based ePortfolios
* Data mining and pattern recognition for knowledge extraction
* Standardization and user-centered deployment
* Packaging, sequencing, and presenting e-learning resources
* Ontology referencing of digital libraries and repositories
* Ontology-aware agents for e-learning and Knowledge Management
* Security, privacy and Digital content protection
* Ontology-based workflows in e-learning

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES


All papers are expected to follow the general ITS 2008 submission guidelines (
http://gdac.dinfo.uqam.ca/its2008/ <http://gdac.dinfo.uqam.ca/its2008/> ). Papers must comply with the LNCS formatting instructions (http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-2-72376-0 <http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-2-72376-0> ), and should not to exceed 5000 words.

Papers will be peer-reviewed by the workshop organizing committee. Accepted papers will be included in the workshop proceedings and will be published on the workshop webpage and on the LORNET Web site.
