Subject: Call for abstracts: Addressing Health Inequalities through
Qualitative Methods

The Centre for East European Language-Based Area Studies

Methodological Workshop: Addressing Health Inequalities through
Qualitative
Methods

While quantitative approaches have traditionally dominated in health
research, the growing application of qualitative methodologies in recent

years has allowed social epidemiologists to address new questions in
public
health, or to approach old questions in new ways. In preparation for a
research project on health inequalities in the former Soviet Union,
researchers with experience in qualitative approaches to social
epidemiology, either in Russia and Eastern Europe or elsewhere in the
world, are invited to discuss their research at a forthcoming workshop.
Of
principal interest will be qualitative research which addresses the
roles
of class, gender, age, and spatial location in shaping health
behaviours,
subjective assessments of health and well-being (including perceptions
of 'control'), and access to healthcare. Purely methodological rather
than
research-based papers are also welcome.

The workshop will be held at St. Antony's College, the University of
Oxford, on Friday 16th May.

Subsistence and travel funding is available for speakers.

Please send abstracts of around 250 words to
[log in to unmask]
by Monday 31st March.
