Hi Liz

very interesting isnt it when Mr Darling has raised at his budget the governments intentions to have incapacity benefits reviewed from 2010 with the capability assessments in order to get folks back into work..

Dear List,

Well haven't the last few weeks been a bit of an eye opener as to how valuble occupational health is viewed by not only the RCN but also the government ... ?

First we saw the plan to withdraw funding for Access to Work for public sector applicants and now I hear that Developing Patient Partnerships (the Health Ed Charity) is being forced to close because Dept of Health funding has been withdrawn (see: http://www.dpp.org.uk/en/1/closurepress.qxml).

Am I the only one confused by the plan to return long term incapacity benefit claimants to work/keep people healthy and in work but at the same time withdrawing supportive/enabling mechanisms?

What will be next?

Regards
Liz
