Dear All...............
I have sat back and watched this debate unfold, as I do many others. I rarely say much in the forum, unless I feel it is appropriate, although I am always keen to read others thoughts and opinions and banter, which often makes me smile.

The RCN supported to me after I left my post as the OH Business Manager at LBTH a year ago. I did not have input or support into my case from Sharon, but my RCN Rep and the legal team, who were fully up to speed with OH, were fantastic.

Their full support helped me in ways that I cannot express and they helped me to find an extremely satisfactory conclusion. I cannot thank them enough for their help and full understanding of me, my circumstances in my role as an OH Practitioner.

I will therefore not be leaving the RCN for alternative representation, as I believe that I have the best representation that my membership fees pay for. However, this does not mean that I think that we should not have our own specialist representative within the RCN.

Kind Regards
Debbie

Morning Everyone

May I urge a point of caution?  The irritation caused by the RCN's partial attitude to nurses in general and us in particular, is deep seated and ongoing.  I am no exception to this, they have never offered me help when I needed it, quite the contrary in fact.   However, please don't spoil these legitimate complaints by confusing them with a misguided approach to the governing body.

It is one thing to opt out of an organisation that's constituted voluntarily.  It is quite another to depart from a legally constituted body that controls our ability to practise as specialists.

Just an opinion!

How about withdrawing from paying for part 3 membership on the register, setting up our own competency framework within the AOHNP, working in partnership with the FOM and BOHS (many of the non-NMC accredited programmes ARE accredited by them!) and withdrawing support for NMC accredited community health programmes, that in my opinion don't meet the day to day needs of our customers anyway -

this could be a blessing in disguise?

I'm interested in the views - Neil - do you have any expertise in online surveys?

Kind regards

Hi Anne

Is this chap based at the head office in London?

I personally emailled the RCN via their web page ..surprisingly i have not had a reply! My renewal dropped through the letterbox today. £185 for the year....looks like the MDU will be getting my renewal.

I would like to write to the general secretary, asking what I get for my £185 and then ask why the post was axed and where an OHN can go to get advice as I have contacted both Sharon and Carol before her. The advice they gave could not be given by anyone who did not have a good OH background and I would like to hear what a HV or school nurse has to advise in our battles with HR/managers/ET's from time to time!

If they dont take heed of the petition (did I understand Neil is going to set one up?) then could we as a group could ring on a regular basis to get advice on some complexed cases and see how quickly they decide that OHN's are special and have specialist needs...which is why we have OH in our title.

Just a thought do the RCN have advisers for nurses who specialise in learning disabilities? they are the smallest public health specialist group i believe...i would be interested to know if that position had been axed too!

Jacqui
