medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture One source that immediately comes to mind is Ronald Finucane's _Rescue of the Innocents_ (1997) that,if I remember correctly, has a moving account of a deformed child well cared-for by his parents. I don't remember if the child was also premature, but there are other accounts in Finucane. I'd also check Monica Green's edition of the _trotula_ texts as another source. Finally, you could also look at Renate Blumenfield-Kosinski _Not of Woman Born: Representations of Caesarean Birth in Medieval and Renaissance Culture_ (Cornell UP).
