Dear all, as suggested by Andrew Lewis, in Maidenhead, please see below a selection of the comments I received in response to my enquiry about Britannica Online. "We have had Britannica Online for about six or seven years and can heartily recommend it. We subscribe to the Library Edition which gives us access to the Junior and Student editions as well as the standard one. It is really useful to highlight to students and parents as a reliable homework aid. Britannica are very supportive about providing promotional posters and are keen to assist authorities in promoting their resource. "Britannica is the most popular of the databases that we subscribe to......" "Our staff like it and as there are different levels of encyclopaedia we have promoted it with young people e.g. We use it with our homework clubs and our internet tutors use it in internet sessions for parents helping their children with homework." "I find it really useful for Homework Club and general homework enquiries as I can explain to them the difference about knowing where information comes from and that it's reliable, rather than just getting something/anything from Google." All quite positive but I have to say I received only a handful of replies so I wouldn't suggest that this in any way amounts to a representative sample of the many UK Public Libraries that subscribe to Britannica Online. For anyone considering subscribing - try before you buy, it's quite straight forward to set up a free trial. Thanks again to everyone who replied. Eddy Durkin Reference Librarian Perth.
