The Career Development Group (Scottish Division) has organised a course on 'The Deep Web', to be held on Monday 19 May, at the Edinburgh Training and Conference Venue, 16 St Mary's Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1SU.  The course starts at 10.30 a.m. and finishes at 13.30 p.m, with registration from 10.00 a.m. 

 

 

This hands-on course looks at the "deep Web" and Web 2.0 technologies. Topics covered include the following: 

*	Part 1: Web 2.0 what is it? Wikis, Blogs and RSS; From Friends Reunited to Facebook; Your virtual desktop social bookmarks and file sharing; and 
*	Part 2: The Deep Web - What is it? When did it start? Timetables, entertainment listings and dynamic information; Bibliographic databases and library catalogues; Shopping sites, Online calendars, Chat, messaging and fora; Multimedia (or, the importance of metadata): pictures, music and film. 

 

The course is led by Paula Younger who is currently the Electronic Resources Librarian at Exeter Health Library in Devon. She also does freelance information work from home - mainly involving tracking down obscure facts like how many teeth does the average slug have. Previous employers include the MoD and the Hokkaido Board of Education."

  

The cost of the course is £40.00 + VAT, including refreshments. There are a maximum of 14 spaces available.
