Dear List members

Please find below details of a new MSc programme being offered at the University of Dundee, UK

MSc in Earthquake and Offshore Geotechnical Engineering

One year full-time course, focussing on the application of advanced soil mechanics to challenging geotechnical problems in seismic and/or offshore areas. These include: subsea pipe laying, foundations and anchors for offshore structures, seismic foundation performance and design, soil liquefaction and remediation. The course will also provide instruction in the application of both analytical and finite element modelling techniques. Students' time will be split approximately equally between taught elements (including: advanced soil mechanics, soil dynamics, earthquake engineering and offshore geotechnics) and a research project which will utilise the extensive geotechnical modelling facilities at the University including the 3.5 m diameter geotechnical centrifuge. Other projects may utilise the University's advanced soil testing facilities including stress path and high rate element testing or expertise in finite element modelling of geotechnical processes.

The course is designed for civil engineering graduates with a good honours degree who want to specialise in geotechnical engineering and as a conversion course for good graduates in geology, engineering geology, geography, earth sciences and environmental engineering keen to pursue a career in geotechnical engineering.

SAAS awards, university studentships and industrial sponsorships are available. Details will be provided on request.
