I've been asked an intriguing question. If an organisation finds a USB memory stick left in an office, which is not the organisation's standard issue so clearly personal property, what checks should it make before giving it to the first person who turns up and claims it's theirs? [Mine have a volume name that's a UK phone number, so I hope they'd find their way home, but I've never tested it!] Given the sort of stuff that people seem to keep on memory sticks, you obviously don't want to give it to the wrong person; but, then, given the sort of stuff people seem to keep on memory sticks, you obviously don't want to look too deeply at the content to try to identify the owner, either. Suggestions welcome?
