The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the
foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden,
Participating
with researchers of diverse backgrounds (microbiologists, chemists, biochemists,
engineers, and technicians) in multi-disciplinary project teams, the researcher
will conduct research to advance the understanding of the structural basis of
enzymatic biomass degradation by investigating and integrating a variety of
experimental plans. Duties also include the preparation and purification of
target proteins; growth and optimization of protein crystals; and diffraction
data collection at the home source and various synchrotron beamlines.
Determination/refinement of the atomic structures of these proteins will
contribute to a better understanding of their structure-function relationships.
As the candidate will work with senior staff to publish and present key finding
in peer-reviewed journals and at regional and national scientific meetings,
proficient documentation of work in detailed technical memos and reports is
also expected. Duties also include attention to environmental safety and health
issues.
A recent
Ph.D. (less than 3 years) in biochemistry, protein chemistry, or a related
field. Candidates must have a strong background experimental X-ray
crystallography. Experience with protein crystallization, data collection at
the home source and synchrotron beamlines, and structure
determination/refinement is required. Ability to work well in a team or
independently with limited supervision is critical.
Ph.D. in
protein crystallography with experience in protein purification, cellulose, or
other polysaccharide degradation biochemistry. Protein structure/function
studies also preferred.
Pre-employment
drug testing required.
Qualified
candidates should e-mail their resume along with phone number, e-mail address,
and postal address of three individuals who can provide recommendation to:
