Leaving the Microwave on too long?
Aidan,

Depending on the microwave, could you programme one button to be a 2 minute (or whatever is needed) timer and put a big sticker/symbol on that button. A dial time may be more difficult.

Subject: Leaving the Microwave on too long?

Hello all.

I have a client with mild dementia who heats her 'wheat bag' (like a hot water bottle) up in the microwave and leaves it too long. It is a potential fire hazard.

Apart from taking away the wheat bag and/or the microwave, can anyone think of any solutions?

She likes having a heat source for bed at night and uses her microwave successfully to cook her meals.

Interestingly the smoke alarm is not picking this up but there is a strong burning smell when the client does this.

Thanks,

Aidan.
