Dear colleagues,

there will be again a palaeoecology-symposium at this years EURECO-Gfoe conference in Leipzig, September 15-19 (see attached call for abstracts, webpage: www.eureco-gfoe2008.ufz.de/

Palaeoecology: biodiversity through time
Each modern ecosystem has its unique history, and knowing this history is essential to understanding it. In addition, quantifying the rates and magnitude of reactions of ecosystems and their components to climate change and anthropogenic impact in the past will aid in projecting future scenarios. In this way, palaeoecology can bridge the past, present and future. It can assist decision makers in managing nature projects and can help to find world wide strategies to deal with the ongoing global change. This symposium will showcase the wide range of disciplines associated with palaeoecology (e.g. palaeobotany, palaeozoology, palynology, genetics, archaeology, geochemistry, soil sciences). All palaeoecological studies that contribute to a holistic understanding of biodiversity and ecosystems through time and from any part of the world are welcome. Particularly encouraged are interdisciplinary studies as well as those that quantify processes that have caused changes in the past.
Convenors: Norbert Kühl, Frank Schlütz, Oliver Nelle, Hermann Behling.

Looking forward to seeing you,
Frank Schlütz
