Dear All,

 

I have spoken to HESA about this issue and 'indeterminate' refers to
intersex people as opposed to transgendered people, as a point of
clarification.

 

With regard to monitoring trans people, our revised ECU guidance on
trans staff and students will be available electronically by tomorrow at
the latest. I will email this group as soon as we have the final version
from our designers. There is a whole section devoted to the monitoring
issue.

Good morning all,

 

With the news that the 2007-08 collection the Gender field for HESA has
the following valid values: 

HESA student record 

1 Male

2 Female

9 Indeterminate

HESA Staff Record

F Female

M Male

U Unknown

Would colleagues be willing to share with me anything their institution
is doing in gathering information on transgendered people? The HESA
field descriptions are not ones we are wholly comfortable with. I have
looked at Press for Change's website and note that there is some advice
which others might be interested in also, although this does not answer
the immediate question we are asking:
