Dear Colleagues,

Registrations are now open for the joint JISC CETIS Assessment and Educational Content SIGs meeting to be held on Tuesday 19 February 2008 at the University of Cambridge.

There is increasing convergence within educational technology standards and specifications as highlighted by the current IMS Common Cartridge (CC) and Tools Interoperability (TI) initiatives.  Alongside this, increasing use of Web 2.0 technologies is providing a myriad of diverse ways to create and access content - including assessments.

This meeting will include updates from the IMS Quarterly Meeting being held the week before in California from Steve Lay (University of Cambridge) and Adam Cooper (JISC CETIS), practical experience of creating and working with CC and TI from Niall Barr (NB Software), Warwick Bailey (Icodeon) and Ross McKenzie (OU OpenLearn) and innovative approaches to assessment using Web 2.0 technologies from Linn van der Zanden (Scottish Qualification Authority).

The meeting will be co-located with a workshop on Monday 18 February 2008 hosted by the three JISC Capital Programme projects focusing on assessment.

The workshop will provide an opportunity to see demonstrations of the QTI-based tools developed by these projects.  The workshop will also include discussion on future directions for the programme and help to build an open source development community to support it.

Both events are free to attend, and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Further information on both events, including detailed agendas, is available at http://wiki.cetis.ac.uk/Assessment_and_EC_SIGs_meeting_Feb_2008  Both events are open to all interested participants, who are asked to register online at http://jisc.cetis.ac.uk/events/register.php?id=69 to reserve a place.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day!

Best wishes,

Sheila MacNeill, JISC CETIS Educational Content SIG Coordinator
