It has made a great deal of difference over here in Guernsey
since the forms have been changed.
I’ve had a couple of GP’s who have phoned me to ask if I
know what an individual does as a job, if they work for instance as a
labourer on a road gang, which meant the GP’s were happy for the
individuals to return to work on restricted duties, which I arranged with their
employers, rather than what their GP’s may normally do, which is sign the
individual off work, and then Occ health ends up getting them back to work
anyway, with concerns from the individual that their GP will be annoyed that OH
has over ruled the decision. This way all involved has a stake in that
individual returning to work and the GP knows what actual information is
required of them, this can also save time and cost for the employer as we won’t
necessarily need to write to the GP to get further information, and the
individual can be back at work imediately.
