Museums and Galleries Month 2008

PR workshops for MGM 2008

We are currently putting together a series of short PR workshops at locations across Wales to help you maximise media coverage for your museum or gallery during MGM 2008 and beyond. We will be holding a workshop at a venue near you during March so please contact Caroline Holmes at Working Word PR if you are interested in attending or would like some more information - [log in to unmask] or 02920 488 778. The workshops are open to everyone on a first come first served basis. Whether you're new to PR or not, you can learn about using PR more effectively and have some fun. Dates and times of individual workshops will be included in a future bulletin.

MGM 2008 events

The National Waterfront Museum in Swansea has already confirmed it will be holding a unique event during MGM 2008! The museum will be displaying a Gilbern Car, the only mass-produced car to be built entirely in Wales. The museum has also teamed up with Swansea University's School of Automotive Engineering to hold its annual degree show alongside the Gilbern exhibition.

Adult Learners' Week 2008 (17-24 May) and MGM

Adult Learners' Week (ALW) is the UK's largest festival of adult learning and is an opportunity for all types of learning providers (including museums and galleries) to showcase achievement and engage adults in returning to their personal learning journeys.

Coordinated by NIACE Dysgu Cymru (NDC), advocates for adult learning in Wales, ALW is an ideal time for museums and galleries to hold their adult and family learning activities as part of Museums & Galleries Month.

Essex Havard, regional development officer for NDC says: "It would be fantastic to see Wales' museums and galleries engaging in Adult Learners' Week. This would support NDC's view that museums are an important part of the adult learning "mix" in Wales".

Each county in Wales has a Learning Festival planning group (a group of learning providers who are working together to plan a collaborative approach to ALW). NDC would encourage museums and galleries to join these groups as they are a very effective way of making new contacts and beginning joint projects.

Learning Promotion Grants (LPGs) of up to £1000 are available for activities taking place during ALW. Further details and application forms can be found at www.learnersweek.org.uk (deadline 7 March).

Adult Learners' Week is supported by a PR strategy that includes TV adverts, newspaper supplements (readership 1.2 million), regional guides, poster campaign and radio adverts. Museums and galleries will gain additional publicity for their MGM events through joining forces with Adult Learners' Week.

For more information, and local Learning Festival contacts, please contact Essex Havard on 029 2037 0900 [log in to unmask]
