North West SfL Research Forum @ Lancaster Literacy Research Centre
Seminar on 28th April 2008
Practitioner Research - can it support professional development?

Professional development is a key theme in recent reforms in the Lifelong Learning sector. CPD is now a mandatory requirement and as such will place demands on already busy workloads. But what does it mean and what potential does this provide for linking practice with reflective research?

This seminar will explore using practitioner research to support professional development using strategic reflective practice. That means thinking critically about what we do and researching it. The day will have examples of practitioner research linked to research projects and action research carried out as part of initial teacher training courses. It will provide a forum to discuss the possibilities and challenges of using practitioner research with those who have done it, those who have supported it and those who have written about it. Bring along your experiences and questions too. You will have the opportunity to gain a NWSfLRF CPD certificate to include in your portfolio.

This seminar will be of interest to those who work in:
*	The FE sector
*	 Voluntary and community provision
*	 Work based provision
* Offender learning and Skills for Life
*	 E2E
*	Youth provision

The seminar will take place on Monday 28th April 2008 between 10.00 and 3.30 at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Lancaster University, and the cost will be £60 (covering all costs including refreshments). As space is limited please complete the attached form and return it with remittance by Monday the 14th April 2008.

Detailed information and travel details will follow application and payment.

Do let me know if you have any questions. I am happy to do all I can to help.

Kind regards
Kathryn James
