One of 12 PhD studentships offered by The Bloomsbury Colleges,
University of London:

Medicines for Children: priorities for research and outcome assessment

http://www.bloomsbury.ac.uk/studentships
<http://www.bloomsbury.ac.uk/studentships>

Aims:

Children have been poorly served by medicines research, with relatively
little effort addressing areas such as: paediatric drug metabolism and
safety, children's perceptions of medicine use, responsibility for safe
use at home, in school or during social activities, or the social
implications of medicine use for chronic conditions. This work aims to
identify and prioritise suggestions for medicines research from
children, parents, teachers, clinicians and other carers (collectively,
stakeholders).

Methodology:

This Studentship will provide the student with opportunities for
learning and applying research synthesis methods (systematic literature
reviews), science communication (or knowledge transfer) skills, primary
research methods and consensus development.

The student will:

1) Attend Masters level training in research synthesis
methods (http://eppi.ioe.ac.uk/cms/?tabid=692
<https://portal.ioe.ac.uk/http/eppi.ioe.ac.uk/cms/?tabid=692> ) before
conducting a systematic literature review of stakeholders' priorities
for medicines research and outcome assessment.

2) Draw on science communication methods to prepare
education materials to facilitate debate amongst stakeholders.

3) Employ primary research methods to elicit responses from
stakeholders about (1) and (2).

4) Apply consensus development methods (eg a Delphi study or
face-to-face meetings) to identify priorities amongst groups of
stakeholders.

Informal enquiries about the project may be addressed to:
