Dear All,
I'm posting the Welcome Message (see Netiquette section) as a reminder that we don't permit importation of disputes from other lists.

WELCOME MESSAGE

British and Irish Poets (B+I Poets) is a poetry listserv focused on non-mainstream traditions of Irish and British poetry, particularly of the 20th and 21st centuries. The membership, of approximately 250, is international.

The current focus of the list is on work that is often described as 'postmodern', 'innovative' or 'experimental'. Members share interests in visual or concrete poetry, ideas of performance and collaboration, translation, digital and on-line work, inter or multimedia work. The capacities and limitations of categories and definitions have themselves been subjects of vigorous debate on the list, as have the possible meanings of "British and Irish," in the fluid terms of poetry.

On the list you can discuss poetry and poetics; distribute information on events and publications; publish reports on readings, symposia and conferences; post original work.

History: The list was begun by Ric Caddel in 1996. There have been several teams of co-owners: Peter Larkin, Elizabeth James and John Cayley; cris cheek and Trevor Joyce; Mairéad Byrne and Rupert Mallin; and currently Mairéad Byrne and Ian Davidson.

The list archive is searchable at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/british-irish-poets.html.  Please keep in mind, when you are posting, that you are contributing to a valuable archive.

Netiquette: The list is unmoderated, with open files.  Listowners do not have the capacity to review, intercept, or censor messages.  Members are expected to exercise courtesy in all exchanges.  The following rules are in place:

No extended shouting (abusive use of all caps). No harassment or ad hominem/ad feminam attacks on members or non-members, whether posted to the list or backchanneled.  No importing or redistribution of claims relating to arguments on other lists.

Penalties for disregarding these rules are as follows.  First offense: One week suspension of membership, followed by reinstatement subject to agreement by listowners.  Second offense: One month suspension, with the same terms.  Third offense: Six month suspension, with the same terms.  Fourth offense: Permanent removal from list.  All decisions relating to suspensions will be the responsibility of the list-owners at that time.  All correspondence in respect of such disputes will be conducted backchannel.

Please limit advertisements in the body of your e-mail to a bare minimum. Please trim messages of previous correspondence in a thread before sending, so that your message will be legible for members receiving postings in digest form.

Welcome to British + Irish Poets.

Mairéad Byrne and Ian Davidson
