Dear all

We hold a series of flight registers as part of a (very) large collection of aerial photographs, and would like to turn the information in them into a structured electronic file to provide an initial finding aid for the collection. Does anybody have any experience of commercial transcription of manuscript registers they could share with us off-list, including pros and cons, the rough scale of costs and any good companies to approach? I’d be happy to summarise any suitably anonymised comments for the list.

The registers are bound albums, dating from 1919 onwards. The information is in a pretty standard format, but in a variety of manuscript hands. A lot of the information consists of names, dates and places. We’d envisage the transcription being done from photocopies of the originals.

Thanks
